The Waskesui RCMP and Montreal Lake RCMP Community Detachment are currently investigating the fire that occurred at the Montreal lake band office as an arson.   Damage in the fire was limited to three of the band's administrative offices on the second floor

The fire started in the office and damage was localized to that area.  Before fire departments arrived, RCMP members used fire extinguishers to try and control the fire.  As the fire continued to increase, the heat and smoke forced the members out of the area.  Members then closed all doors and windows to cut off all sources of oxygen in the area to try and contain the fire.

 

The RCMP Detachment is located to a attached wing of the building on the first floor and was not damaged in the fire.  This is not seen as an attack on the property of the RCMP.
