Overnight November 19th 2009 an abandoned farm house located south of the Melfort garbage dump was destroyed by fire. The fire is suspicious in nature and police are interested in speaking to witnesses that were at the scene, especially the occupants of a vehicle described as a white Dodge Neon.

The fire did spread but fortunately other property was not damaged.  There is not only the threat to nearby property, but the threat of wildfire spreading to other farms as well.
